Hands and Fists

This was made to go with Louise Rileys' costume that she was wearing when  creating art at the Hospital club last week, The fists is not  stained and lacquered like the others. I put maximum amount of blood for Maximum Drama, gold plated chain apparently. It really made the costume.

The ''fools gold'' piece is so loved that I made this one, using some 10mm glass eyes lent by DnA. The hands are painted silver and then lacquered as a test, in the future I shall probably do metallic looking casts but it means using different materials and it is a  real mine field. I used sculpey to make the flash part of the eyes, this is a one off unless any rock stars or consultant surgeons want one.

I wanted a better image of this piece online. I am desperate to make some Halloween pieces but instead have been focussing on finding better and more durable ways to make the blood and source better materials. The whole thing of making something Arty and Beautiful and then be able to make it in quantities using suitable materials at a reasonable cost is a really hard job.

I spent a couple of sessions visiting well chosen shops and they have all really loved the work, all I have to do is go in wearing the fist on black and I am in. I am waiting for some very important people to get back to me, . . . . . . and in the meantime starting the making of a dozen of the most popular-straight-forward-to-make pieces.

Greetings, I have decided on a limited range of pieces which I am putting into Sample Production, These are all titled in bold and have secret double letter codes, as I struggle to figure out prices.

Kanaloa is the Hawaiian Creator, who appears in the form of the octopus.

there will be a variety in length and weight of chains, giving male and female versions. I am gonna make a  dozen of each type at least. There should be curbed chain in chrome, gold and gun-metal (very dark), and filed curb chain in the 3 colours. I know a metal plater so I could get really into it and have any finish imaginable but not yet.

And I will make the sculptures in a range of colours using new dyes.

So I will have pieces to sell soon.

36. Bloody Hands Earings.

The Bloody Droplets: For these I have been using beaded curtains which I have painted in glass lacquer, they are great but i dont know how they will last so I have beads on order for making up the droplets, its gonna whack up the price, but they will be much classier and I will have total control of the size of drops etc..
These japese beads come in white gold and silver and then they are dyed to order, so my blood red would be dyed over the gold, WOW so exciting.

HOW ?

Dear All,
         Some people have asked how I have made the small sculptures-beads-pendant things.

1. I model a small sculpture using Sculpey, which works like Fimo but is a much more usable texture. When finished this is then cooked in the oven, then I carve it and polish it etc . . .

2. Then I make a mold of RTV rubber, I use a vacuum chamber to remove any air bubbles from the rubber. The Simple objects are one piece molds using the softest rubber, the snake and octopus are 2 piece.

3. Then I cast polyurethane copies, using the chamber again. With some of the objects I then make a second mold to cast them 4 at a time using the first copies made from the first mold.

4. After casting each sculpture is then cleaned up using a knife and-or a grinder. Then they get polished a little using very course canvas. They get a gentle cooking in the oven to assist the curing process.

5. Then I paint them with a very hard wearing glass lacquer which I then wipe off to give the aged look. The lacquer is super gloss so I mix up a satin lacquer and give them a coat of that after.


6. If they are gonna have jewel eyes I then carve out correct size hole and superglue in a jewel, the jewels backs are pointed which makes them glitter better and makes them more secure.

 As the pieces are worn they will change their appearance a bit, in a good way.

SCULPEY:  sculpey make a range of products in different textures. I find Super-Sculpey or Super-Sculpey-Firm the best. If you want to make some small things for yourself they make a multipack of coloured Sculpey III blocks which for £20 is a great deal. This is apparantly the same texture as Super Sculpey but in pretty colours. Super Sculpeys main disadvantage is that it is translucent so you have to mix in white and black to make it a better colour for modelling .

Okay thats how I make them, god it makes me feel tired just seeing it like that, Err did you say you wanted a discount ???

I just made one of these for Louise Riley to wear while sewing at the Hospital Club, the fist in Ivory, chain slightly shorter, with as much blood and as long as possible, the fist looks even better the other way around so you can see the fingers.
